A treasured local landmark

Dominating a dramatic valley created at the end of the last ice age, Gillett Pond has long been a one-of-a-kind treasure for the people of Richmond, Huntington and other communities across Vermont and beyond.

Skaters and skiers revel on it during the winter. Canoers, kayakers and anglers enjoy it throughout the warmer months.

Area educators, wildlife watchers and citizen scientists know it as a hotspot for viewing and learning about everything from birds and bullfrogs to beaver and bobcat.

Gillett Pond also represents an important part of the area’s technological heritage. And the only publicly accessible body of water for people in the host towns.

Gillett Pond is a truly unique resource. But, due to the age of its dam, it’s also one that could disappear overnight.

We welcome you to enjoy the Pond,  and we also invite you to join the Friends of Gillett Pond to help ensure its survival for generations to come.
